Queen Sahara (Poem)

Welcome to the land, hot as toast.
Finest of grains coalesced in dunes;
Shimmering oasis; actually, ghost;
Flaring wind, sounding tunes.
Do you as many do, think I’m barren?
Different from the plain of Sharon?

Make a tent by the oozing spring at night,
Observe twinkling stars from above-
As my gleaming moon take me for flight-
on cloudless skies, on wings of love.
Thought I was lifeless?
Wait till morn’ princess.

Fresh dew on cactus tendrils,
Wild flower wielding beauty and tolerance.
Dromedaries on coarse hills,
Elegant trains on which you balance.
Still unimpressed?
Tilt a little left.

I boast of many civilizations, like none before.
Strong Ethiopia, I weaned between my bosom;
I still breed jackals, antelopes, hyenas and more.
With my ally, the Nile, I made Egypt blossom.
I had more Fresh dates and palms,
Lovely Sudan was richer in balms.

Delve deeper, down to my past,
At the time when I was all fresh and succulent.
Till adversity forced them depart,
Yet, I live! Though dry may seem, I’m opulent!
Do you question the majestic tiara,
Of most beautiful Queen Sahara?
